To Las Palmas

From Morro Jable it is approximately 60 nautical miles to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. It is a day trip with around 10 hours of sailing in the wind predicted by the weather forecast. In order to arrive before dark, we leave Morro Jable at dawn.

Nostalgia trip to Morro Jable
From Gran Tarajal it is a short sail, just over 20 nautical miles down to Morro Jable on southern Fuerteventura. We have been there once before, at the beginning of 1990. At that time, they had just started building large hotels by the beautiful beach. We’ll see if we recognize the place now.

Visiting Gran Tarajal

In order to make a few stops along the way, we leave Rubicon about 1 week before we were supposed to arrive in Las Palmas. We take the route east of Fuerteventura and the first port is Gran Tarajal, barely 50 nautical miles from Rubicon.

Vineyards in Lanzarote

The car excursion continues and we visit the wine district around La Geria to see how grapes are grown in a volcanic area. Since we didn’t visit La Graciosa when we sailed here, we want at least to view the island from a vantage point at the strait between Lanzarote and Graciosa.

Lanzarote’s large lava fields

In this story, you can follow us on a day trip with a rental car to the north of the island. Among other things, we want to experience the large pitch-black lava field in the middle of the island that you can see on Google Maps.
